Armonk, NY – On January 26, 2016, AmkaiCharts EHR v.3.6 was approved by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy to meet the requirement to use positive identification for anyone ordering or administering medications electronically. Positive Identification is a method of identifying an individual who prescribes, administers, or dispenses medications. In order to meet the Ohio positive ID standards, any EHR system recording prescription information cannot rely solely on the use of a private personal identifier such as a password, but must include an additional means of identification such as a barcode reader.
In order to serve Ohio ASCs, Amkai developed functionality for its latest release of AmkaiCharts EHR, v.3.6. This functionality enables ASC administrators to require anyone ordering, changing, approving, discontinuing, or administering a medication to provide a second form of identification via a personal barcode. Barcode scanners can be deployed at each AmkaiCharts workstation that integrate with the application to use this capability.
